The Founder’s Story
Hello….. I am Leigh Mitchell. As the founder and president of Women in Biz Network my focus has been on my members and not myself. However, my story and values are a great part of what I am trying to accomplish for WIBN. So here it is in a nutshell: I was born into entrepreneurship and I have seen the great highs and lows of that. My parents owned a resort in eastern Ontario during my childhood. Every summer I cleaned cottages and worked with children in our guest recreation program. When I graduated from high school I witnessed my parents having to walk away from a business that they loved and had heavily invested in.They worked tirelessly growing their resort business, but the 90′s recession hit and they declared bankruptcy. Overnight the dream died. I never forgot that pain. I believe all of these experiences impacted me and made me the strong person I am today.
For 15 years I worked in the safe and reassuring environment of municipal recreation marketing but ideas of going out on my own started calling to me. I was scared and uncertain but knew I had to give business ownership a try. It was in my blood.
While on maternity leave with my second child I started a marketing consulting business for women business owners, as well, I became an adult educator and I also spent a great deal of time writing. Through my marketing workshops (along with private consultations) Women in Biz Network was born. WIBN is in its 4th year of business and we are operating across Canada through our national membership program both online and in-person.
The part of my business that I enjoy most is hearing about what you do and your story.With this in mind, I try to get to know what your business is about and then I specialize in providing a 1 stop business shop where I can provide you with the right resources (including myself) to help you with all your business needs. If you aren’t sure where to start or have a specific need in your business, please reach out to me so I can help you find trusted providers who are as passionate about your business as you are. I believe in supporting the whole entrepreneur, so we place emphasis on taking care of your emotional, physical and business needs through our programming and coaching services. On a personal level, I now have two children, am happily married with a husband who is actively involved in my work. In my spare time I love to hike, do yoga and read.
