What is holding you back?

If you’ve been trying to achieve a goal or resolve an issue in your business with little or no success, what is the next step?

If you have done everything you can to make a positive change…if you have consulted with experts and put their suggestions into place…if you have done it all and still have not achieved your goal or solved the problem, then suspect that your  thoughts along with the emotions and behaviour patterns attached to them are the culprit.

Here’s an example. Let’s say one of your goals for 2012 is to start networking more effectively. You want to connect with people in a meaningful way to generate referrals and deeper business associations.

But every time a networking event approaches you begin to feel anxious. Excuses of why you are unable to attend flood your mind. You get nauseous at the thought of  telling people about yourself and your business.

If you actually make it out to an event you find yourself sticking close to people you already know, escaping to the bathroom when you find yourself alone, sitting in a chair and never getting up, hanging out at the refreshment table and leaving without handing out your business card. All of these are self sabotaging behaviours which prevent you from creating your goal; an effective referral base and ultimately moving your business forward.

Some people may give you the advice to just get over your fears and start interacting with people. While this tactic works for some for others it has little or no effect at all. That’s because the core thoughts and beliefs which anchor these sabotaging behaviours are solidly anchored in place.

Perhaps you know exactly what thoughts have you trembling at the mere mention of networking. Thoughts and beliefs such as: “What if people don’t like me? People don’t want what I have to offer. I’m not interesting. What if I say something wrong? I’m not smart enough? People might laugh at me. I’m not good at this.”

Maybe a memory of a past networking event that didn’t go so well floods your mind. Or maybe the movie that plays in your head is from childhood when you had to stand up in front of your class to make a speech. You stumbled upon your words and your classmates giggled as you stood frozen and mortified.

Some of you might say,”I have no clue what  thoughts are holding me back.” The fact that you are unable to change unproductive networking habits and patterns is a clue that negative thinking is at hand..

If you struggle with networking or achieving any goal in your business and you have tried everything to make it happen, then be open to the possibility that a negative belief is hand. Then begin a journey of change from within; finding and transforming your negative and limiting beliefs. You’re Almost There Girl!
